We all inherit ideas about how life works.

Some come from family.

Some from school.

Some from culture.

Some are phrases we've heard so many times we stop noticing them.

Many contain wisdom.

Many have helped people through difficult moments.

But sometimes they only tell part of the story.

This series isn't about proving anyone wrong.

It's about becoming curious about what might have been left out.

Because the words we hear repeatedly can shape what we notice,

what we expect of ourselves,

and how we make sense of our experiences.

"Curiosity killed the cat."

"Better the devil you know."

"Don't cry over spilled milk."

"The grass is always greener."

Most of us recognise these phrases immediately.

We may have heard them from people we love.

We may have repeated them ourselves.

We may have built parts of our lives around them without realising it.

Sometimes these sayings offer perspective.

Sometimes they create pressure.

Sometimes they help us see one part of the picture while hiding another.

This series explores familiar sayings, advice, and assumptions through a wider lens.

Not to reject them.

Not to replace them.

Simply to ask:

What does this help us see?

And what might it stop us seeing?

Because when we can see more of the picture,

we often discover there are more options than we realised.
