The Glovers’ Story — Choosing a Different Pace

Updated: Nov 30

When we realised the life we were living no longer fit.

A family of three standing together with travel backpacks, preparing for their journey — a moment that marked the beginning of choosing a different pace and a new way of living.

For a long time, we didn’t set out to do things “differently.”

We kept moving—

following the shoulds and have-tos, matching a pace we thought was “normal.”

We could have kept going.

But the workload, the speed, and the stress weren’t adding up to a life that actually supported us.

At some point we found ourselves wondering:

When did “just getting through the day” become the measure of a good life?

I remember holding my breath just to make it through —

performing “fine,” hearing the familiar voice of just get on with it.

Underneath it all, one question kept returning: Does life have to feel this heavy?

🗒️ When survival isn’t enough

We began noticing the loops —

the doing, the exhaustion, the running on empty.

What once helped us get through was now keeping us from feeling alive.

So, as a family, we paused and asked:

  • What if life didn’t have to feel this overwhelming?

  • What if the story we’ve been told about success and pushing through isn’t the only story for us?

  • What if there was a way of living that supported us — instead of draining us?

That pause led to some big re-evaluations —

in how we worked, how we learned, and how we defined success as a family.

One of the first shifts was choosing to support our daughter’s learning differently —

in a way that respected her wiring, our capacity, and our values.

It wasn’t about stepping away from life.

It was about building life around what actually worked for us.

🗒️ The Glovers’ Story - What We Chose Instead

We didn’t walk away from everything.

We realigned with what helped us feel steady and connected.

We sold our house and created a gentler bridge to reduce costs.

That gave me space to pause paid work and build Conscious Detox Living with intention —

and gave us all the room we needed to choose our next steps more carefully.

It wasn’t polished.

It was real life, met as gently as we could.

And slowly, something new began:

presence over pressure honesty over performance awareness over avoidance

🗒️ Why we share this

We’re not sharing because we’ve figured everything out.

We share because it can feel isolating to quietly question things—

especially when others don’t understand.

This isn’t about convincing or debating.

What fits one person or family may not fit another — and that’s ok.

We’re sharing what we’ve lived and learned,

in case it helps you notice what feels right for you —

and what your body might be asking for.

Take what serves; leave the rest.

Different paths are valid.

Through Conscious Detox Living, we’re creating space for conversations like these

reflections, real stories, and small shifts that open the door to something lighter, steadier, and more sustainable.

You’re allowed to live differently.

You’re allowed to choose steadiness over performance.

And when you’re ready, there’s space here to explore what that could look like for you.

💭 Have you felt the quiet pull to do things another way—but weren’t sure where to begin?

A small note: We welcome respectful, on-topic sharing.

If this isn’t for you, simply take what’s useful and leave the rest.

If you’d like more context, here are the other two pieces in this series…

🗒️ If you notice the same struggles on repeat…

Some days it feels like no matter what you try, you end up back in the same place.

That can be frustrating or defeating.

Often, it’s an old way your body learned to cope —

a familiar route toward steadiness, even if it doesn’t feel helpful now.

Seeing that can make room for something gentler. At Conscious Detox Living, we make room for that.

Not with pressure. Not with perfection.

With honesty and plain language, at a pace that feels possible.

🗒️ If Something Stirred While You Were Reading… It Matters

Sometimes we don’t realise how much we’ve been holding until a quiet sentence brings it into focus.

If something here resonated — or helped you notice how you’ve been feeling — this space can hold that, too.

We share reflections and simple, real-life practices for when life feels too fast, too loud, or too demanding.

No rush to be anywhere else. Just a place to start where you are.

Patterns aren’t proof you’re failing. They’re your nervous system’s way of trying to keep you steady — until a new way becomes possible.
